Saint-Petersburg located art-band PROTEZ (Russian for "prosthesis") was estimated in 2006 by artists Igor Mezheritsky, Alexander Vilkin and Grigory Yuschenko. In the period till summer 2009 they made more than twenty exhibitions, happenings and projects. From the very start PROTEZ was oriented on trash-aestetics, the main sources of inspiration for the band were dirty tabloids and magazines, cheap horror films and absurdic reality of Russian low-life. The main thematics for PROTEZ are sex, violence, drugs, insanity and war that are clear and close to every man.
The main directions of work for PROTEZ are: a) the paintings made in brutal trash estetics in which the influence of art-brut and classical expressionism may be seen. The fabulas for the paintings are often based on the most bloody and absurdish tabloid articles, tv-shows and so on. The band is oriented on large, monumental formats of paintings.
b) the band made a number of "antrophological" happenings, the main focus of which is researching human vices (such as dumbness, greed, etc) and playing on some social realities of todays Russia.

c) PROTEZ also develops absolutely new genre of remakes of commercial posters that was named "hard-jumping" Using the posters of pop-concerts and well-known companies commercials taken right in the street as the base, the members of PROTEZ create absolutely independent works filled with new mifology. The scandals are often connected with hard-jumping. One well known "criminal pop" singer tried to start persecuting the band members after they remade his poster.
Using low-life, trash- culture, mixed with absurd, art-band PROTEZ is much liked not only by declassified elements but also by well-known art critics, The art magazines write about PROTEZ as well as tabloids.
